Changes to traffic conditions from Hester Ave into Marmion Ave

CHANGES to vehicle directions across north coast suburbs aim to ease the impact of increased traffic when the Mitchell Freeway extension opens later this year.

The latest change creates two right-turn lanes from Hester Avenue into Marmion Avenue at the double-lane roundabout.

Westbound drivers in the right lane should only turn north into Marmion Avenue, while those in the left lane can turn north or continue west on to Anchorage Drive.

Reader Sarah Jane Evans said she nearly had a crash at the roundabout on Wednesday because of the changes.

“The vehicle in the right lane went straight, and I was turning right in the left lane,” she said.

“The driver may not have known the rules as, when I blew the horn, I received a ‘pleasant’ middle finger.”

City of Wanneroo’s acting assets director Grant Chettleburgh said drivers could watch a video on how to navigate the roundabout online.

“These changes will allow two lanes of traffic to turn right from Hester Avenue into Marmion Avenue,” he said.

“(That) will help ease traffic travelling to the City’s northern suburbs via Mitchell Freeway, Hester Avenue and Marmion Avenue.

“Signage to indicate this new arrangement will be put in place by Main Roads WA.”

Mr Chettleburgh said the City had undertaken several other projects to improve traffic flow.

“These include upgrading Connolly Drive and Marmion Avenue to four-lane dual carriageways, constructing a roundabout at the Hester Avenue/Ridgewood Boulevard intersection and increasing capacity at the Connolly Drive/Hester Avenue roundabout,” he said.

.Last month the City released a similar video indicating traffic flows at the Hester Avenue and Connolly Drive roundabout, which now has three lanes in one direction.
