Those charges follow several others laid by the detectives in recent weeks for stealing offences, assaults, drug possession and fraud, according to Senior Sergeant Gary Saunders.

‘We have doubled the size of our office to 12 detectives,’ Sgt Saunders said, with the team based in Joondalup while Clarkson Police Station undergoes expansion work.

‘Our main focus is still in Clarkson and that northern corridor.’

District Superintendent Charlie Carver said the expansion would house 16 detectives once finished about October.

Supt Carver said there had been a decrease in offences in the sub-district, including a drop of almost 15 per cent, or 100 fewer burglaries in the year-to-date figures compared to the same period in 2011-12.

‘Gary Saunders has done a fantastic job up there with the guys,’ he said.
