City of Wanneroo launches local area plan consultation for Girrawheen-Koondoola and Yanchep-Two Rocks

THE City of Wanneroo has invited residents to have a say on what they love about two areas – Girrawheen-Koondoola and Yanchep-Two Rocks.

It announced the two local area plans on February 1, inviting people to do online surveys on each area.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said pinpointing local priorities was imperative and the City’s Place Framework offered a new approach to doing that.

“As a City, we want to preserve an area’s sense of place,” she said.

“Our Place Framework outlines the importance of understanding what makes a place special and unique.

“Some people may value being just 15km from the Perth CBD with easy access to shops, services and amenities.

“Others may appreciate the stunning scenery of the Koondoola Regional Bushland or high trees that line the streets of Girrawheen.

“From the blue waters of Yanchep Lagoon and The Spot to the koalas, kangaroos and towering trees at Yanchep National Park, Yanchep and Two Rocks are abundant in natural beauty.

“Covering such a large and diverse area, Wanneroo Council understands that the activities and services we offer should be specific and significant to the local community.

“We’re doing this by developing local area plans in close collaboration with local residents, business and other interested parties.”

Mrs Roberts said the Yanchep Two Rocks plan would complement the work done between the City and placemaking consultancy RobertsDay on shaping the future of Yanchep Lagoon.

Community engagement will take place from February 1 to March 31 and the City expects to finalise the plans by June.
