THE City of Wanneroo is seeking Federal and State funding to improve 10 sections of road known for crashes.
Council supported the applications for 2017-18 Black Spot Program funding at the September 13 meeting, with the cost for the 10 projects totalling $3.195 million.
Projects approved under the Australian program are fully funded while those unsuccessful could get State funding, with one-third to be covered by the City.

The City would be required to contribute a maximum of $1.065 million if all projects are accepted.A report by the City said the chosen areas were identified as best meeting program criteria.
“Based on previous years’ Black Spot grant funding submissions, the projects listed for 2017-18 have a medium to high potential of success,” it said.
“Should the City be unsuccessful in receiving grant funding for the Black Spot projects, these will be continue to be monitored, listed in the City’s draft long-term capital works program for consideration and prioritised accordingly.”Five-year crash data provided by Main Roads showed 713 crashes across the 10 sites resulting in 152 casualties and five pedestrian crashes.
The highest were on Marangaroo Drive in Girrawheen with 160 crashes, four pedestrian crashes and 33 casualties, followed by 154 accidents and 34 casualties at the Marmion Avenue and Anchorage Drive roundabout in Clarkson and 142 crashes resulting in 24 casualties at the Marmion and Hester avenues roundabout in Mindarie.
Funding for the projects will be announced in May.

Banksia Grove: pre-deflection on eastern approach of roundabout at Pinjar Road and Joondalup Drive
Mariginiup: guide posts on Neaves Road from Dempster Place to Via Vista Drive
Gnangara: guide posts on Badgerup Road between Lakeside Drive and Jambanis Road
Carabooda: guide posts, widen roadway and provide edge lines between Cutler Road and Yanchep National Park
Mindarie: skid resistant surface at Marmion and Hester avenues and Anchorage Drive North intersection
Madeley: median treatment and upgrade lighting on Kingsway from Wanneroo Road to Sovrano Avenue
Clarkson: left turn slip lane from Marmion Avenue (north) to Neerabup RoadKoondoola: 3m-wide shared path on Marangaroo Drive between Alexander Drive and Koondoola Avenue
Girrawheen: 2.5m-wide shared path on Marangaroo Drive from Wanneroo Road to Mirrabooka Avenue
Darch: median treatment, bus embayment and upgrade lighting on Kingsway between Hartman Drive and Ashdale Boulevard
