SWIMMERS can expect to feel safer at Quinns Beach from next month with the installation of a shark barrier.
The City of Wanneroo said installation of Global Marine Enclosure’s $420,000 eco-friendly barrier in Quinns Rocks will start in mid-January and it was scheduled to open by the end of January.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said the community’s response to the barrier had been positive.
“What we’ve been hearing is that people who have been too fearful of the ocean in the past, are now looking forward to swimming at Quinns, safe in the knowledge that there will be a barrier between them and large predators,” she said.
“Unlike traditional shark nets which can trap small marine creatures, the barrier will allow smaller fish to move freely and safely.”
