THE City of Wanneroo started a second round of public consultation for coastal planning around the Quinns Rocks Caravan Park site.

It has launched an online survey and invited submissions until March 9, with a community information session planned this month.

The City is investigating redevelopment options for a tourism-related use on the site off Quinns Road, which stopped operating as a caravan park for holidaymakers in late 2012.

As part of that process, the City is developing a coastal hazard risk management and adaptation plan to assess the coastal vulnerability and potential hazards resulting from climate change and rising sea level.

At the City’s electors AGM last month, Quinns Rocks Environmental Group spokesman David Wake successfully put forward a motion asking that redevelopment works remain within the current cleared area.

The motion asked that the City protect all the bushland on Lot 211 Quinns Road given its value to the community, for local flora and fauna and for passive recreation.

“It’s Bush Forever; it’s relatively large for that stretch of coast, in fairly good condition,” Mr Wake said.

“It provides amenity for residents and visitors.

“The motion is really to highlight the value of the bushland and encourage the City to retain it and ensure the development is kept in the footprint of the existing site.”

Seconder Martin Dickie, of Butler, said the site was significant as one of the few coastal sites owned by the council and should be enhanced for “ourselves and for our children”.

“I feel very strongly that Bush Forever should be forever,” he said.

Representatives from the City and consultant Cardno will be outside the Quinns Mindarie Community Centre on February 17 from 8.30am to 11.30am to answer questions or provide more information.
