IRENE McCormack Catholic College's junior girls soccer team is the toast of the school after winning the Football Champion Schools Junior Girls Shield recently.

The girls won all their games in the knockout stage, after qualifying through the Coastal Associated School group stage.

They defeated Mercy College, St Stephen’s School, and Churchlands and Balcatta senior high schools to secure their place ” and a 3-2 win ” against Prendiville Catholic College in the grand final.

Captain Alex Robinson scored twice in the final.

The team included some of the college’s Year 7 Soccer Academy members, who substituted for Year 8 players away on South-West soccer tours.

‘The girls have had a great season and are to be congratulated on their victory and efforts throughout the year,’ Soccer Academy director Ross Laing said.
