CLARKSON Primary School charged ahead of 24 other local schools to win $5000 to spend on equipment for the 2016 school year.

The school accumulated the most points in Ocean Keys shopping centre’s school rewards campaign which ran from February 8 to 28.

The $2500 second prize went to St Andrew’s Catholic Primary School, while Quinns Beach Primary School placed third, winning $1500.

Two prizes of $500 each went to Mindarie and Quinns Rocks primary schools.

Centre manager Karen Draper said shoppers supported whichever school they wanted to win, creating a sense of friendly competition between schools and parents.

Clarkson Primary School principal Anthony Shields said the prize money would be well spent.

“The school community really embraced the competition and did what they could to get the word out there, I believe social media helped us in that regard,” he said.

“Our community is always very supportive of our endeavours, even people not directly connected to the school will do what they can to help and we’re very grateful.

“Going into the competition we had a few ideas of where we’d like to invest the prize money, with IT being one area; but we are democratic and will discuss options with the school community so they can help decide.”
