Construction begins on Quinns Beach shark barrier

Laura PondNorth Coast Times

LARGE concrete discs dotted Quinns Beach last week, marking the start of construction on the $420,000 shark barrier.

The concrete anchor blocks, along with other equipment and materials, were transported to the site in preparation for installation of the Global Marine Enclosures eco-friendly barrier in Quinns Rocks.

Helicopters are scheduled to install the blocks today, and boats and divers will establish seabed chains and stingray anchors.

Enclosure walls will then be set up and the barrier is expected to be ready by January 31.

Temporary closures are in place along the beach during works, with signage in place to direct pedestrians.
