CONSTRUCTION company RJ Vincent & Co has won a $2.21 million contract to widen Marmion Avenue to a dual carriageway in Butler and Jindalee.

City of Wanneroo acting chief executive Harminder Singh awarded the tender for the road widening project between Lukin Drive and Butler Boulevard under delegated authority in mid-December.

A report on tomorrow night’s council meeting agenda asks elected members to note the decision, while another report considers a 378-signature petition asking the City to fast track widening the rest of Marmion Avenue.

Councillor Dianne Guise presented the petition to the council in December, asking the City “to budget for and fast track the dualling of Marmion Avenue to Yanchep Beach Road immediately to alleviate constant congestion on this road”.

The February 7 report recommends the council note that the City plans to widen the road through to Graceful Boulevard and Romeo Road in the next two financial years.

It also recommends the council reaffirm its December decision to ask the State Government to |reclassify Marmion Avenue as a primary distributor road and undertake the widening project, or provide funds for it.

“The mayor wrote to the Premier and Minister for Transport seeking the reclassification of Marmion Avenue as a primary distributor road under the care and control of the State Government,” it said.

“The City is currently waiting for a response to this request.”

According to the report, it would cost about $2 million per kilometre to widen the remaining 9.8km stretch between Graceful Boulevard and Yanchep Beach Road.

Last year, the City awarded RJ Vincent a $1.1 million contract to widen Neerabup Road west of Connolly Drive and a $6.48 million contract to widen Connolly Drive to Lukin Drive.

“RJ Vincent & Co has successfully completed works on Connolly Drive and Neerabup Road, and thus has a good appreciation of the requirements within the area,” it said.

The City received seven tender submissions for the current Marmion Avenue project.
