Council queried on staff costs, schedules

COUNCILLORS questioned projects falling behind schedule and increasing staffing costs at a recent Wanneroo City Council briefing.

The November 3 agenda included a financial statement for September, which stated the Wanneroo Civic Centre extension was behind schedule.

“We are only a couple of months behind in that project at the moment,” assets director Harminder Singh said when he was queried.

He said staff hoped to present it to the council in December and go out for tender early next year.

Councillor Dianne Guise asked when the council would receive information about Wanneroo skate park and potential savings, and was told it would be December.

Cr Domenic Zappa asked about a 51.5 per cent increase in employee costs between August and September.

Corporate strategy and performance director Noelene Jennings said the City had budgeted to recruit extra staff as part of the structural realignment but it had taken time to appoint the extra staff.

“The first months are all behind budget,” she said.

“Now we are in the process of recruitment coming on line.”

The council approved a motion to receive the statements without further discussion at its November 10 meeting.
