Mr Matthews said the May 11 flight was his longest yet, covering 102km in two hours and 52 minutes and using 6l of fuel for the motor strapped to his back.

‘My take off was from Alkimos; I then flew north to 15km past Two Rocks, turned south at this point and headed to Burns Beach,’ the Butler resident said.

‘I always hug the coast line as I need to have landing options as I fly.

‘The flight was quite smooth and uneventful, which is just how it should be.

‘I consider it to be pure therapy for the soul, for the ever-changing views and freedom of being in the third dimension and the fun factor too.’
