DEC operations officer Michael Cobby said most DEC-managed parks and reserves were off limits to unauthorised vehicles such as trail bikes.
‘We strongly encourage drivers to use their off-road vehicles in approved areas such as those at Gnangara and Pinjar in the City of Wanneroo, Medina in the Town of Kwinana, Lancelin and York,’ Mr Cobby said.
‘Unauthorised use of motor vehicles on DEC-managed land can attract a fine of up to $1000 under the Control of Vehicles (Off-road Areas) Act 1978.
‘There are a number of concerns associated with off-road vehicles, including damage to vegetation and fencing, spread of dieback, noise and anti-social behaviour.’
In WA, trail bikes and other off-road vehicles registered with the Department of Transport can be used in gazetted off-road vehicle areas.
Off-road vehicles can also be used on private property with the permission of the landowner.
