Noongar language teach-er-in-training Judith Birchall organised a Naidoc day at St Andrew’s Catholic Primary School on July 3.

Children rotated around the school to participate in various activities, a change from previous years when written work and art were displayed in the school hall.

Among the activities were boomerang and spear throwing, tool making, artefact presentation and traditional games.

High school students who helped run the activities on the day included Yanchep District High’s Tremain Kennedy, Ashleigh Verwey and Amanda Verwery, and Mindarie Senior College’s McKenzie Birchall, Jaya Cowan and Shaylee Verwey.

Mrs Birchall said she was in her final year of learning to become a Noongar language teacher, and she taught it weekly at the school as part of her training.
