Located in the Alkimos Beach estate, the zone has operated between Surf Life Saving WA flags on weekends and public holidays.

It provides supervision, water safety education and equipment to trial water activities, with two safety personnel and a community program instructor on site.

It is part of a three-year partnership between SLSWA and developers Lendlease and LandCorp that aims to increase residents’ confidence at the beach and teach survival skills.

“With many of our residents from overseas, providing the opportunity to access water safety education and develop important skills is an invaluable contribution and enables our whole community to safely enjoy the Alkimos Beach coastal lifestyle,” Lendlease WA communities general manager Anthony Rowbottam said.

A launch event for the BeachSAFE activation zone took place on December 19, with yoga, an African drumming workshop, roving entertainment and kite-flying.

It will be active between 8am and 3pm on weekends and public holidays until January 31.

People can access the beach via a track from the car park on Leatherback Boulevard.

The Sprout Hub also hosted a Christmas Party for estate residents on December 20, screening a festive film for children.
