Facelift for boat ramp

Transport Minister Dean Nalder announced funding for boating facilities around WA last Friday, including $518,100 for the Department of Transport to upgrade the boat ramp.

Wanneroo MLA Paul Miles, who is on the Sun City Yacht Club committee, said the upgrade would include widening the ramp.

"It's to make it wider so it's a complete two-lane ramp " you can drop two boats in at the same time," he said.

"It's also to put in some solar lighting."

Mr Miles said the department also planned to install a floating jetty pontoon on the southern side of the ramp.

"It's about being able to make it safer and the ability to speed up the process of launching boats," he said.

"It's still only a stop gap " that really needs to be a four or six-boat ramp going into the future.

"Eventually it will need to be upgraded to a full sized boat ramp."

Mr Miles said he hoped the next upgrade at the marina would include public toilets, but a wash down area was unlikely as people could take their boats home and wash them on their lawns.

The Times asked the department when works would start and if the ramp would be closed, but a spokeswoman said a response could not be provided before deadline.
