BANANAS in Pyjamas joined the election campaign in Joondalup today.

GetUp! volunteers dressed as ABC characters Bananas in Pyjamas were at the early voting centre in Joondalup to campaign against funding cuts for the national broadcaster and urge voters not to support Pearce MHR Christian Porter and the Liberal party.

“Christian Porter is part of a government that has attacked many of our essential public service,” GetUp campaigner Ed Miller said.

“They’ve underfunded healthcare by $2.8 billion, and they’ve cut hundreds of millions out of our ABC.

“A frank, fearless and independent public broadcaster is crucial to holding our government to account.”

Mr Porter said it showed GetUp!, who opposed his efforts to get WA more GST, was “the campaign wing of the Labor party”.

“An organisation using unexplained foreign money to ship over radical people from Sydney to tell our community how to vote will get the rejection it deserves,” he said.
