WINDS are causing difficulty as fire crews tend to a scrub blaze in sand dunes near homes in Jindalee.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said eight units and an air support crew were called to the fire about 4pm.

It has caused a lot of smoke in the area near the intersection of Marmion Avenue and Roundhouse Parade.

The department has advised residents in the area to keep an eye on the blaze and stay in touch with DFES alerts because of the problematic winds.

It has burned about 5ha of bush.
