Seventeen competitors launched eight boats from Mindarie Marina at 6am, returning for the weigh-in at 4pm.

Altogether they caught 11 species, with winner Gamini Jayaweera reeling in the most with three, and a total of 72 points.

In second place, Guy Little racked up 60 points and caught the fish of the day, a 3.089kg pink snapper.

Jason Gouges placed third on 52 points, and Linda Thompson won the women’s competition with 10.

Curren Lipscombe won the junior competition with 30 points.

Some members will head to Lancelin on March 19 for the State Boating Championships.

Open to new members, the club holds family social events as well as fishing competitions on the third Sunday of each month, if weather permits.

Members meet at Gumblossom Recreation Centre on Fridays from 6pm to 9pm.
