Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the City awarded a $2.495 million tender to Curnow Group, which started building the sandbag and rock revetment and sand replenishment yesterday.

‘We are pleased that these essential protection works can start so quickly,’ Mrs Roberts said.

‘The City understands the concerns of local residents and they can be reassured with the knowledge that further safeguards will now be in place to combat the effects of severe erosion.’

Work should be complete in May. The City closed Frederick Stubbs Park again last week, removing its swings and benches.

The City included construction of a limestone retaining wall as a separate item in the scope of works. The council is expected to consider whether it should be built based on community consultation, development approval and funding.
