Global fast-food giant sidesteps council

The five-person panel will consider an application by the Rowe Group for a $3.3 million McDonald’s restaurant beside the future Masters Home Improvement store.

According to a report by City of Wanneroo staff for the January 23 meeting, the site was approved for showrooms, and the applicant has opted to apply through the DAP rather than through Wanneroo City council.

Proposed developments valued at between $3 million and $7 million have an ‘opt in’ option, and the report said the application was not advertised for public comment because a drive-through food outlet was a permitted use in the area.

It said plans for the 2508sq m site on the corner of Butler Boulevard and Ulverston Way would include indoor and outdoor seating for 142 people, a party room, playground, dual-lane drive-through and 44 parking bays.
