Since forming four years ago, the group has used a court on Yarmouth Road.
Now, as part of the Jindalee Beach foreshore precinct development, Heath Development Company has provided a new court.
Members used the ‘massive’ pitch for the first time on January 2, celebrating with a sausage sizzle on adjacent barbecues.
Club president Rob Moorman welcomed the improved playing area, which is big enough to play two petanque or bocce games simultaneously.
‘We enjoy being out in the fresh air and, being by the sea, it’s beautiful,’ he said.
‘The company is also very good.’
Mr Moorman, who learnt the bowling game in Spain, said the group had grown but particularly needed more men for mixed doubles.
‘We started in February four years ago with six members including myself and my wife Eileen,’ he said.
‘Now we have 12 members and are looking for more.
‘We also have social events including Christmas in July, a car rally, barbecues and theatre outings.’
Heath’s project director Brian Newman said the game had become popular among locals, hence the decision to upgrade the court.
‘With a picnic area there as well, other people have the opportunity to play bocce or petanque on the new playing area,’ he said.
‘People are still using the old court, which will remain and be maintained.’
