IRENE McCormack Catholic College celebrated the life of its patron and namesake, Sister Irene McCormack, last month.

Members of the McCormack family, including Irene’s sister Bernadette, her brother John and his wife, Maureen, joined students and staff at the May 5 celebration.

Students, families and staff contributed towards the day by donating equipment, money, prizes, baking and time, raising $5000 for the Archbishop’s charity LifeLink and $2000 for Brother Ollie Pickett’s Wheelchairs for Kids.

Irene McCormack Day started with Mass at the Butler school, followed by community service, food, fun and music.

“Our college community is most able to celebrate ourselves when we look after one another and those in need,” campus dean John Swindells said.

“It really is a mobilisation of a community which relies on generous hearts and a sense of something worth celebrating.”
