A LOCAL girl 'would not have survived the night' had it not been for the persistence of her friend Jemma McConnell.

Earlier this year, the 16-year-old Alkimos resident was crucial in helping police find a teenager who was in a concerning state of mind.

Sergeant Dave Mallows said Jemma’s persistence in calling the girl on her mobile phone led to her safe return.

He described appalling weather conditions when police found the girl, who had been missing all day, on the coast late at night.

‘It was cold and wet’
