Joondalup councillors choose Poliwka as deputy as Jacob is sworn in as mayor

ALBERT Jacob was sworn in as the new mayor of Joondalup on Tuesday.

His deputy is Russell Poliwka, who ran for mayor against Mr Albert and who beat Cr Kerry Hollywood in a ballot for the deputy post.

The City of Wanneroo will hold a special council meeting to elect its deputy mayor and appoint councillors to committees next Tuesday.

The City held a swearing-in ceremony on October 23 for the newly elected councillors Paul Miles (Central ward), Sonet Coetzee and Lewis Flood (both North Coast ward).

Returning councillors are Domenic Zappa and Hugh Nguyen (both South ward), Dot Newton (Central ward) and Linda Aitken (North Coast ward).

Mayor Tracey Roberts congratulated her fellow elected members on their election.

“I look forward to working with all councillors as we represent the best interests of our community and strive to make Wanneroo a vibrant place our residents are proud to call home,” she said.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our former councillors Di Guise (Central ward) and Glynis Parker (North Coast ward) for all of their hard work and dedication.”
