A JOONDALUP martial arts trio is spreading its wings to Mindarie for a water-based business venture.

Colin and Carla Luthwood have started Evolution Flyboarding with Sam Moland and will be launching at the Boardwalk Beer Festival at Mindarie Marina this Saturday.

“Our background is in martial arts we own and operate Joondalup Martial Arts which has been operating for six years so to continue on the sport theme is like an extension of that,” Mrs Luthwood said.

“Colin was actually the one who wanted to start the business after seeing a demonstration in 2015.

“We looked at locations and thought bringing another tourism element and extreme sport experience to Mindarie would be an awesome idea.

“We will primarily operate out of the marina and sometimes off Quinns Beach.

“The opportunity the marina gives us is that during high swells and choppy water we would usually have to cancel the experience but in the marina we are protected; that means we are able to fly regardless.”

People aged 14 or older can do the sport, which has been offered at other Perth locations, including Hillarys Boat Harbour.
