Law students test skills

Jack Hunter, Adrian Rogers, Suzanne Bundsen and Nick Brookes attended the annual Vis Vienna Moot in April where teams from 280 universities battled it out in mock legal arguments.

Yanchep resident Mr Brookes said there were many sleepless nights in the lead-up to the week-long event.

‘Moot preparation requires a lot of research and even more practice with phrasing submissions,’ Mr Brookes said.

‘Speaking clearly, confidently and succinctly is not a skill that is learnt overnight.

‘It is up to the participants to place their submissions forward in the best light possible while addressing matters raised by the judges and at the conclusion of the hearing, the most persuasive team wins.’

Mr Brookes said the competition was a great opportunity for law students to further their critical thinking, confidence and research skills ” traits needed to pursue a career in law.
