A CLARKSON shopping centre will become a building block playground these school holidays.

Ocean Keys Shopping Centre will host a free interactive Lego brick zone from April 11 to 23, with play areas and brick models on display.

Those aged up to 12 can get involved in two different activities – speed play, which involves building challenges, and the freestyle building area where children can get creative.

WA Brick Society members have build nine brick art displays that will be on show, including a model of the Perth Train Station that took more than six months to create using about 10,000 bricks.

Society secretary Aaron Gibson said the group had a passion for building and more than 30 members enjoyed sharing their creations with others.

“Some of our models can take up to a year to create, it is a labour of love and I think anyone that has built, or still does build, appreciates the time that has gone in to these pieces,” he said.

“Often when people see what we’ve done they get inspired to get their Lego collection back out, it reignites their passion for building.”

Centre manager Karen Draper said she looked forward to bringing the cross-generational brand to the centre.

“Everyone has had a Lego experience and it is still just as popular today as it ever was,” she said.

“Parents who played with it decades ago watched their children enjoy it and now their children are having just as much fun with it today.

“Quite often great school holiday activities are located close to the city, which can end up a long and expensive day for families that don’t live near the CBD.

“We wanted to bring an appealing, free activity to the northern suburbs so parents don’t have far to venture for a fun day out.”

The event will run from April 11 to 23, excluding April 17, from 11am to 2pm daily.
