Lifesavers set to patrol, train

Quinns Mindarie Surf Life Saving Club vice president Des Choake said patrolling members expected to put in 3000 volunteer hours during patrols this season.

‘The junior activities and the club’s patrol season start on Sunday, October 20,’ he said.

More than 250 nippers will be involved in various activities on Quinns Beach every Sunday until late February between 9am and 11am.

The club’s 100 patrolling members will also watch over the beach between 9am and 1pm on Sundays in October, then extend patrols to 10am to 2pm Saturday shifts and 9am to 3pm Sunday shifts from November to April.

Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club will hold its registration day on October 20, then start Sunday patrols on November 3.

President John Heesters said they would patrol the beach between 8am and noon on Sundays, and the nippers program would start on November 10.
