A PERTH council has fallen victim to credit card fraud, with about $31,000 taken from its account.

Mindarie Regional Council, one of WA’s largest waste management authorities, was subject to several fraudulent credit card transactions according to recent financial statements.

Chief executive Gunther Hoppe said an external party made fraudulent use of an MRC credit card in November and December last year.

Mr Hoppe said the fraudulent transactions were picked up as part of normal banking procedures.

He said about $31,000 was taken, which was fully refunded by the bank.

The council’s only credit card was cancelled as soon as the transactions were discovered and the bank has since issued a new one.

The cities of Joondalup, Wanneroo, Perth, Stirling and Vincent as well as towns of Cambridge and Victoria Park are members of Mindarie Regional Council.
