Man charged over house fire

Reported about 3.20pm on March 25, the fire had already burnt through about 80 per cent of the Bateson Heights home, according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).

A DFES spokeswoman said crews from Butler, Duncraig, Joondalup and Osborne Park extinguished the fire by 4.39pm.

"By 3.54pm the fire was under control; by 4.39pm the fire was extinguished," she said "The cause was deliberate (and) 95 per cent of the house is damaged."

Arson Squad detective Senior Constable Jason Barnes said detectives charged a Clarkson man (44) with criminal damage by fire and he was due to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on April 17.

Detective Senior Constable Brendan Kelly said the damage bill was "upwards of $500,000".
