IN the lead-up to this week’s National Science Week, Merriwa students have been mastering their robotic skills.

Alkimos Baptist College principal Kieran Graham said the school’s specialist robotics engineering program fitted well with this year’s science week theme of Drones, Droids and Robots.

One of the school’s teams participating in the WA leg of the Robocup Junior competition on August 5 placed third in the secondary dance category.

The bronze-placed team included Hayden Petera and Deng Manyang, while their peers Grace Millar and Ciara Carroll were in another team.

“In the first year of the competition, two teams from Alkimos Baptist College became finalists – the only school to get multiple teams in the top seven,” Mr Graham said.

“We are very proud of our students and teams in the competition.”

Mindarie Primary School also took part in Robocup.

National Science Week runs until August 21.
