MERRIWA, Clarkson and Two Rocks primary schools will receive extra education assistance in the next three years.

Burns Beach MLA Mark Folkard said the State Government would provide 100 extra education assistants to WA schools in 2018.

Each new education assistant will be a permanent employee and work within kindergarten to Year 2. Another 100 will be added annually in 2019 and 2020.

Merriwa Primary will receive education assistants equal to 1.6 full-time positions by both 2019 and 2020, while Clarkson and Two Rocks will receive their additional 1.2 full-time positions by 2020.

Yanchep District High School, which will become a primary school once the secondary school opens next year, is also set to receive another 1.2 full-time assistants by 2020. “It is our duty to ensure that all children – no matter their background – have the opportunity to get the most out of their education,” Mr Folkard said.

“By providing additional support in the classroom to students experiencing difficulty, we are not only giving that child a chance at achieving their full potential, but also freeing up time for the teacher to educate the rest of the classroom.”

Gingin District High and Lancelin Primary schools will respectively receive an extra 0.9 and 0.3 full-time education assistant allocations by 2020.
