Achieved over three years at Beenyup Wastewater Treatment Plant off Ocean Reef Road, it would fill more than 1556 Olympic-size swimming pools.
Water Minister Mia Davies said the trial plant had tested groundwater replenishment in local conditions and ensured it could meet health targets.
Such was its success that work on a full-scale plant was due to start later this year.
