FIREWORKS will return to Mindarie Marina for a New Year’s Eve event for the first time in nine years.

The marina last hosted New Year’s Eve fireworks in 2008, and stopped that and Australia Day fireworks in 2009-10 due to reduced financial backing from the City of Wanneroo during the global financial crisis.

This year, it plans to bring back December 31 fireworks with the support of Burns Beach Estate and Coca-Cola.

“We want to provide a safe, fun and exciting evening out for the whole family by hosting a fireworks extravaganza on Sunday, December 31,” festival and events coordinator Kara Wood said.

“From 5.30pm the boardwalk will come alive with street performers (stilt walker, fire twirler, Batman and Rapunzel), pop up street food stalls, buskers and live music in all of the venues.

“Fireworks will start at the family friendly time of 8pm.

“For those who wish to see in the New Year, The Boat and Indian Ocean Brewing Co will host free events and tickets can be purchased from Eventbrite for the Sunsetz pool party in the Cabana.”

The marina’s calendar of events will also include the Boardwalk Beer Fest on October 14, Mindarie Festival on November 19 and Christmas Festival on December 17.

The last Australia Day fireworks held at the marina were in 2009, when about 8500 people attended.
