Mindarie Regional Council offering tips about rubbish

PEOPLE interested in the environment and recycling can take part in a free waste education program.

Mindarie Regional Council’s Earth Carers training course starts this Wednesday, comprising five sessions over three weeks.

Council waste education officer Peg Davies said attendees would learn where rubbish goes, what happens to it, how to recycle and ways to reduce waste.

“It sounds like a lot for rubbish but there’s a lot to learn,” she said.

“We’re trying to give people information so they can make better choices about their purchases and what they do with it.”

She described the course as a little depressing but ultimately inspiring.

“You never look at a bin the same way again,” she said.

Sessions run Wednesday evenings and Saturdays, with each held at a different location, including the City of Wanneroo operations depot in Ashby, Resource Recovery Facility in Neerabup, Tamala Park landfill site and West Leederville Community Garden.

The course is free and meals and resources are included.
