MINDARIE resident Helen Randall is appealing for |donations to help victims of domestic violence this festive season.
Ms Randall said donations of non-perishable foods, toiletries, toys and treats would be given to the Patricia Giles Centre and its Rebecca West House refuge.
The appeal was driven by her concern for the one-in- four women nationally who experience physical, emotional or sexual violence by an intimate partner.
“Refuges like Pat Giles and Rebecca West are a valuable resource in our community and are in desperate need of community support,” Ms Randall said.
“Christmas time is a crucial period for these centres.
“Donations of non-perishable foods, toiletries, toys, treats, gift cards or vouchers, iTunes cards, Christmas hampers etc, are greatly |appreciated and can be |collected or delivered until December 10.”
Ms Randall said people might not be aware that someone they knew was a victim of domestic violence because “the bruises are not always physical”.
“Emotional abuse is silent to the undetecting eye; it can make women feel |depressed, fearful for their life, unworthy and even suicidal,” she said.
