A MINDARIE school and Kinross aged care provider have teamed up to give people with dementia modern music technology.
Peter Moyes Anglican Community School and Amana Living are expanding an innovative music program, Tune into Life, that collects iPods to redistribute to people with dementia.
The school aims to collect 10 iPods a week and has called on the community to donate second-hand iPods or iTunes vouchers to donate to the program.

READ NOW“Last year’s Tune into Life pilot showed the positive impact that personalised playlists can have on the life of a person with dementia,” Amana Living enrichment manager Emily Lees said.
“The clients who took part in the trial were happier and enjoyed better relationships with our staff as well as their loved ones through listening to music together.
“We hope everyone gets behind the Tune into Life iPod Drive so more people living with dementia and their families can benefit from the program.”
A music therapist ran the program, delivering individual and group music therapy sessions and training Amana Living staff on how to use the playlists effectively.
This term, PMACS students will visit Amana Living residents at the Kinross Care Centre.
“Our students are very excited about the opportunity to help members of our local community by utilising their knowledge of technology and music – two of their favourite things,” primary deputy principal Nicole Brown said.
Donations can be dropped off at the school’s Elliston Parade or Salerno Drive reception areas.
