Staff WriterNorth Coast Times

MAIN Roads WA expects to open the Neerabup Road access to the Mitchell Freeway extension tomorrow morning.

In an update, Main Roads has advised that Neerabup Road eastbound between Connolly Drive and the freeway could open on the morning of August 22, including the northbound on-ramp.

“A single lane closure will be in place from 9am until the afternoon to facilitate final sign works,” it said.

“Hester Avenue (between Hidden Valley Retreat and Wanneroo Road) and Wanneroo Road (between Hall Road and Hester Avenue) also follow improved layouts, having been widened to two lanes in each direction.”

It also expects to open the principal shared path from Burns Beach Road to just south of Neerabup Road, although the path will remain closed between that point and Hester Avenue.

That section of the path is expected to be opened to pedestrians and cyclists by early September, with Main Roads waiting for dry weather conditions over several consecutive days to carry out asphalting work.

The 6km freeway extension to Hester Avenue opened on August 4, but local government and federal politicians have since called for the road to extend farther north.
