THE Old Yanchep Road black spot project will be put on hold while the City of Wanneroo seeks more funding.

A State Black Spot grant of $1.4 million was awarded to the City for the design (stage 1) and construction (stage 2) of the section between Ziatas Road and Wattle Avenue.

Stage 1 found extensive earthworks and road reconstruction were needed to realign and widen the road.

‘The extent of these road works is far greater than anticipated as part of the original application for Black Spot funding in 2012,’ a recent council report said.

‘Significant costs ($1.5 million) have been identified with the relocation and removal of power infrastructure by Western Power. The project is unable to be completed within the (overall) approved budget of $2.1 million.’

The City will release $1.3 million of the grant and apply for an additional $2.4 million during the 2015-16 Black Spot grant funding round.
