More mail movement

Staff ReporterNorth Coast Times

At the Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association’s August meeting, president Peter Wimsett said the box would soon move to Yanchep Central shopping centre.

‘Our local mail box is moving again,’ he said.

‘My suggestion is we ask them to fit it with wheels but what I would like is another post box near Woolworths ” stop moving the darned thing and have a second one.’

An Australia Post spokeswoman said the new position would improve access and convenience for residents to lodge mail because Yanchep Central was a larger shopping precinct than Village Row.

She said the consultation period ended on August 31, but any customers who had concerns could call 13 13 18.

Asked by the Times if there were plans to build a post office in Yanchep, the spokeswoman said there were post offices in Two Rocks, Quinns Rocks and Clarkson that serviced the Yanchep community, including Clarkson’s 24/7 parcel lockers.

‘With the potential growth to take place in the vicinity of Yanchep, Australia Post will continue to monitor the needs of the community going forward but at present do not have any plans to open an additional post office,’ she said.

‘A number of factors are taken into consideration when determining whether a new post office is required in an area.

‘These include the location and number of existing outlets in the area, the size of the |population and the volume of business that is likely to be undertaken across all of these outlets.

‘Australia Post is required to operate in a manner consistent with sound commercial practice and needs to ensure the ongoing viability of existing outlets in the area.’
