Michael Sutherland, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, ordered the Butler MLA to leave half-an-hour after the December 3 Parliamentary session started, having called him to order more than three times.

Mr Quigley told the Weekender he repeatedly asked Premier Colin Barnett whether he would give Yanchep District High School the $10.5 million for upgrades announced last year that was then not included in the 2013-14 budget.

Mr Barnett had been responding to questions from Opposition Leader Mark McGowan about education funding from the Federal Government.

The Premier said while any increase in federal funding was welcome, the State Government generally provided 90 per cent of funding for government schools in WA.

‘We would always take more from the commonwealth, but again I remind members that it is the minor funder,’ Mr Barnett said.

‘For the next school year, we have gone from $7 million, to $13 million to $31 million (from the Federal Government) and I will take that. The state spends over $4 billion a year on our state government schools.’

Mr Quigley said he and Mr McGowan would be at Yanchep District High School’s assembly tomorrow morning.

‘I will not be deterred or stopped from fighting to get back the $10.5 million which Barnett had promised and then took away, for the Yanchep District High School upgrade,’ the MP said.
