RONSARD Park in Ridgewood will get new playground equipment.

City of Wanneroo councillors decided at their May 9 meeting to replace a proposed playground at Clarkson’s Kyara Park with one at the Ridgewood park.

A council report said the new playground installation program had proposed to put play equipment at the park bounded by Connolly Drive, Walyunga Boulevard and Kyara Court.

However, it said work to widen Connolly Drive to a dual carriageway led to the park becoming unsuitable for a playground.

“Kyara Park has since taken on an increased drainage function, making the park not suitable for a playground installation as it would be prone to flooding during the winter months,” it said.

The report said Ronsard Park was next on the program’s priority list.

“The City has previously received community requests for play equipment at Ronsard Park, which have been incorporated into the playground’s concept design,” it said.

“Wider consultation will be undertaken with local residents.”

The City’s 2016-17 budget included about $224,000 for new playgrounds at Kyara Park and Sandison Park in Landsdale, with the plans for the latter not affected by the council decision.
