Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

A STEERING committee has asked the City of Wanneroo to help it establish a men’s shed in the Yanchep area.

Formed after 24 people attended a community meeting at the Yanchep Sports and Social Club on August 7, the Yanchep Community Men’s Shed steering committee has written to the City asking for its support.

The committee is chaired by Malcolm Gow, with Colin Vann as his deputy, Ron Bartle as treasurer and Gavin Moore as secretary.

“We had a public meeting to find out if there would be enough interest in it – the amount of people who came was overwhelming,” Mr Moore said.

“The outcome of the meeting was that we should form a steering committee to form a men’s shed in Yanchep.”

The Eglinton resident said the WA Men’s Shed Association had suggested a site of about 1000sq m would be needed, so he wrote to the City asking it to consider which of its landholdings would be appropriate.

Wanneroo councillor Sabine Winton withdrew her motion on notice at the August 16 council meeting to avoid a double-up.

She lodged a 110-signature petition asking the City to undertake consultation for a men’s shed on residents’ behalf at that meeting.

Butler MLA John Quigley has written to Lotterywest to find out about grants it could apply for.
