LITTLE ninjas clambered their way around obstacles at a recent Mindarie Primary School event.

The school held its first ninja warrior obstacle course event for kindergarten and pre-primary students last term.

Teacher Sarah Barns said staff developed the idea late last year to get parents to network and build a sense of community.

“This idea grew as teachers had identified a need for children to be focusing on gross motor skills,” she said.

“Many children begin school with underdeveloped fundamental skills such as balancing, hopping, jumping and core body strength.

“Teachers also identified a need to have direct access to water to enhance the children’s play in the early childhood playground. These two ideas blended together and the Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course developed.”

Parents made donations for their children to take part in the obstacle course event, and the school will use the funds raised to source water tanks.
