DATES for the installation of a mobile phone tower in Alkimos are uncertain while the provider co-ordinates planning with major utilities.
An Optus spokesman said they were committed to improving mobile coverage in Alkimos, with a tower site earmarked within the Alkimos Wastewater Treatment Plant buffer zone.
“We are co-ordinating with the landowner and local service providers to gain access to the site and discuss options,” he said.
“We are in discussions with Vodafone and Telstra in regards to co-location of assets on the proposed tower and aim to switch on services as soon as possible.”
Better mobile coverage was a key priority for the Alkimos Beach Progress Association, which was told earlier this year that the tower would be installed about March.
However, a recent newsletter said the builders, Visionstream, had since told the group and estate developers Lendlease that approvals had been “more complex than anticipated”.
“The City of Wanneroo approved construction last year, and plans now sit with the Water Corporation and Western Power for an engineering assessment,” the newsletter said.
“Once this is complete, Visionstream will announce the construction timeline.”
