LEASES for the remaining two tenants at Quinns Rocks Caravan Park will end this November, with Wanneroo City Council deciding last month not to renew tenancy agreements.
During a confidential session at the June 24 council meeting, councillors unanimously agreed not to offer any new agreements to the tenants.
Responding to questions from the Weekender, Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the leases would expire on November 30.
‘The City of Wanneroo has had extensive consultation with tenants at the park and, as a result, will be seeking to take vacant possession at the end of the lease,’ she said.
The council decided in November 2012 to close the caravan park to short-stay visitors while it considered upgrade options, but gave seven long-stay tenants two-year leases.
It initially planned to install seven single-bedroom prefabricated units to accommodate those tenants, but in April this year decided instead to install five duplex units.
Mrs Roberts said the City no longer had current plans for the site on Quinns Road in Mindarie, but was looking at its future development, and would consider caravan, mobile homes and camping sites.
‘Benchmark Projects Australasia has completed consultancy work for the City and the next stage will be to issue tenders for a consultancy to advise council of development options,’ she said. ‘Through this process, community comments will be welcomed.’
The City’s 2014-15 budget, adopted on Tuesday night, included $500,000 carried forward from last financial year for the caravan park upgrade.
