Northam Detectives charge man over string of incidents around Lancelin

POLICE have charged a 36-year-old man as a result of their investigation into several incidents including a house fire around the Lancelin area yesterday afternoon.

About 1.10pm it was alleged the man slashed the tyres of a vehicle parked on Indian Ocean Drive near Caraban Road in Caraban.

It is then believed the man went to the home of a person known to him on Ocean Farm Drive in Nilgen where he set fire to a room, which was destroyed before being extinguished.

A short time later, police saw the man driving a Holden Commodore along Ocean Farm Drive.

They alleged he did not stop when requested and accelerated away from them.

He was later apprehended at a roadhouse on Dewar Road in Gingin.

Northam Detectives have charged the Bunbury man with criminal damage by fire, breach of police order, reckless driving to escape police pursuit, failing to comply with direction to stop and no authority to drive.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates court today.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives urge anyone with any information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online.
