Danka Scholtz von Lorenz’s mural at the Yanchep Lagoon has been taken down temporarily.

Danka Scholtz von Lorenz removed the mosaic from the toilet block wall in early August, which will be stored while the City of Wanneroo rebuilds the toilet facility.

The mosaic was first installed in 2004 and will return to a south-facing verandah once the works are completed, according to a statement released by the City on Friday.

The current facility is in a low-lying area vulnerable to flooding, blocks views across the park and the entry to the toilets is not viewable from the car park, the statement said.

The new facility will be just north of the existing one and rotated so the entry is viewable from the car park and playground.

Work to build a beach access point at Fishermans Hollow is also in the design phase.

The $185,000 project is awaiting a clearing permit from the Department of Environment and Regulation and a heritage clearance from the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs.

Works include the removal of the existing slab construction and construction of raised aluminium supported stairs, more suited to the coastal environment.
