Oldham Park play equipment will be replaced

QUESTIONS about the return of playground equipment removed from Oldham Park for extension works arose at a recent residents meeting.

Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association members discussed the ongoing absence of play equipment at the reserve at their March 21 meeting.

The City of Wanneroo removed the playground to extend the change rooms building last year and add a multipurpose room.

Responding to questions from the Times, the City’s community and place director Fiona Hodges said new playground equipment would be installed this year.

“New like-for-like equipment will be installed,” she said.

“The playground will be located in a similar location to the previous playground, next to the extension.

“The extension opened for use in December 2015; however small construction tasks are still being completed. A grand opening is yet to be scheduled but will be advised.”

Mrs Hodges said there was another playground at Fisherman’s Hollow that families could use in the interim.

The upgrades at Oldham Park were done to help meet needs of local sporting groups, including Yanchep Red Hawks Football Club, until the Yanchep playing fields open.

Mrs Hodges said the City was due to start work on the playing fields in July.

“However, this is subject to the completion and finalisation of some further required works by the developer, Yanchep Beach Joint Venture,” she said.

Once construction of the City’s works for the Yanchep active open space commences, it will continue until completion. “It is hoped the project will be completed by mid-2017.”
